About Tugela Trails

What we’re about

Tugela Trails is an Outdoor Education provider based near Winterton in KZN, South Africa. Over the last 8 years, we have become specialists in planning and facilitating journeys for school kids. We also run Wilderness Skills holiday camps. We are based at the Berg Guest Farm, a B&B and self catering dairy and game farm on the Little Tugela River. Our journeys take place in and around the Spioenkop Mountain / Spioenkop Game Reserve / Winterton / Central Drakensberg areas. We have access to many hectares of privately owned farm land and game farms. Our farmers are an integral part of the successes of our trips, and have bought into these journeys with great enthusiasm.

Safety First

Safety first – safety is what we prioritise; every day, on every journey, everywhere – it is simply not negotiable. We have, through our public liability cover with SATIB, access to Africa’s leading Remote Incident Management Centre (SATIB24 Crisis Call). This 24 hour call centre allows any incident to be efficiently managed. Specialist Doctors and Paramedics will ensure that patients get the best possible care.

Tugela Trails Mission Statement

Tugela Trails create safe outdoor experiences for children of all ages. Our trips are lots of fun and have a strong conservation, adventure and team-work ethos. Our journeys aim to have children experience discomforts and hardships en-route. It is these daily challenges that create the richness that comes only with struggle. The richness gained on our trips has children leaving us more resilient and more self confident. Our trips aim to improve their emotional intelligence (EQ), and our kids have an increased appreciation for the comforts and conveniences of modern life.
